Materials
Aluminum extrusions are manufactured with a 6063 alloy and a T5 temper. A baked enamel paint is used with white and rideau brown being the standard colours. Custom colours are available. All fasteners are stainless steel.
Extrusions
There are generally two types of extrusions used:
- Pressure plate - We use two types of systems: the truss and purlin and the
freespan.
- Truss and purlin - a low profile pressure plate extrusion extending over a purlin running the opposite way. This purlin is connected to a truss in lengths over 10’ 6. This substructure provides the strength and is generally less expensive than the
freespan.
- Freespan - Various size rafters ranging from 2” to 5” depths are used.
2" and 5" wide aluminum pressure plate extrusions are used
on the outside.
This system is used when no substructure is required. It is capable of handling large spans and wider spacing between rafters.
Both types of pressure plate systems are “dry” glazed using gaskets on the glazing bar under the glass and on the pressure caps over the glass. The pressure caps are fastened using stainless steel fasteners. These are usually covered with a vinyl or aluminum beauty cap. The result is a clean low profile appearance on the exterior of the glass unit.
- Drainage channels and condensation tracks are integrated in our
pressure caps systems.
